uShaka Marine World is the easy family day in Durban. The park sits on the beachfront at the south end of the Golden Mile, in the Point district, and brings an aquarium, a water park and a swimming beach together on one site.
The aquarium is the heart of it. One of the largest in the world, it’s built into a replica 1940s cargo ship, with tunnels and windows that put you face to face with the sharks, rays and reef fish. Dolphin and seal shows run several times a day in the Sea World stadium, and strong swimmers can snorkel or do a cage dive with the sharks by booking ahead.
Right next door, the Wet ‘n Wild water park lines up big slides, a lazy river and shallow pools for little ones, open Wednesday to Sunday. uShaka also has its own sheltered swimming beach, so a day here can mix the aquarium, the slides and a calm dip in the warm Indian Ocean. The Village Walk between the two gathers the restaurants and shops.
