South Africa Guide is an independent editorial guide to travelling in South Africa, written in several languages and free to use. It's published by F5 Media, and its aim is simple: to help you plan a better trip, with honest, well-checked advice and no noise. This page explains how we work and what you can expect from us.
An independent, honest guide
We choose what to feature on its own merit, never because someone paid for a place on the page. Our job is to tell you what a destination is really like, including when something is overrated, when the weather can spoil a plan, or when a "must-see" is worth skipping. We try to set expectations honestly, so you arrive knowing what you're getting, rather than being sold a postcard.
How we keep the guide free
The guide costs nothing to read, and it's funded by affiliate links. When we point you to a tour, a stay, a flight, a car or an eSIM, we use links to trusted partners, including GetYourGuide, Booking.com, Skyscanner, Viator, Discover Cars, Airalo and Ubigi. If you book through them, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you, the same price you'd pay going direct. These commissions keep the lights on, but they don't decide what we recommend: we suggest the option we'd choose ourselves, and we say so plainly.
Accuracy we stand behind
Practical details matter, so we check them. Prices, opening hours, access rules and seasons are verified against official and reputable sources, and we date our updates. Even so, this kind of information changes, sometimes overnight, so we treat it as a guide rather than a guarantee and tell you when to confirm with the operator or park before you travel. If you ever spot something out of date, we'd genuinely like to know.
Respect for places and people
South Africa's beauty comes with real history and living communities, and we write with that in mind. We handle sensitive subjects, from the sites of apartheid to San rock art and the stories of the people who live alongside these places, with care and without sensationalism. We favour responsible travel: looking after wildlife and landscapes, supporting local guides and communities, and being straight about things like malaria risk or safety rather than glossing over them.
