Cape Town's beach side. Sea Point's promenade and Camps Bay's palm-lined strip face the Atlantic and the Twelve Apostles, for sunsets, ocean swims and the city's best seaside dining, 15 minutes from the centre.
If you came to Cape Town for the sea, base yourself on the Atlantic seaboard. Camps Bay is the postcard: a white-sand beach under the jagged Twelve Apostles, with a single palm-lined strip of restaurants and cocktail bars that fills up for sunset. Around the headland, Sea Point is longer, busier and more local, built along a promenade that runs for kilometres past tidal pools, lawns and an outdoor gym.
It’s the upmarket, holiday side of the city, and you pay a little more to wake up over the ocean. In return you get the best sunsets in Cape Town, easy beach days, and quick access over the mountain to the cableway and Lion’s Head, with the City Bowl and the Waterfront only about 15 minutes away.

Camps Bay is the chic, palm-lined beach strip under the Twelve Apostles, made for sundowners. Sea Point is more relaxed and walkable, with a long seafront promenade.
Close to the mountain
You're minutes from the Table Mountain cableway and the start of the Lion's Head hike over Kloof Nek, and about 15 minutes from the city and the V&A Waterfront.
Great eating and sunsets
Camps Bay's strip is wall-to-wall restaurants and cocktail bars facing the beach, and Sea Point has a deep, more local food scene a step cheaper.

This is the upmarket, ocean-view end of the city. Camps Bay leans to design hotels, boutique stays and villas with a view and a price to match, busiest and dearest in the December–February summer. Sea Point is the more affordable neighbour, with seafront apartments, aparthotels and guesthouses along and behind the promenade. Either way you pay for the sea, so expect more than the City Bowl.
